The Twin Falls Education Foundation proudly recognized outstanding educators and support for education during its annual Red Apple Gala on April 10, 2025. The evening highlighted the strong partnerships and deep dedication that power the district’s mission. Superintendent Dr. Brady Dickinson, Foundation Executive Director Katie Rickert, and members of the Board of Directors led the event, alongside sponsors and presenters who helped honor this year’s award recipients.
Each year, the Foundation honors two outstanding educators who represent the very best of Twin Falls classrooms. The Teacher of the Year Awards celebrate one exceptional elementary teacher and one outstanding secondary teacher who go above and beyond to inspire students, support their colleagues, and build a positive learning environment. Each honoree received a $1,000 cash prize, made possible through generous donations from local businesses and individuals who value the impact of great teaching in our community.
“The Teacher of the Year Award is one of the most meaningful recognitions we can offer,” said Katie Rickert, Executive Director of the Twin Falls Education Foundation. “It’s an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the incredible educators who make a difference every single day.”
This year’s Teacher of the Year recipients are:
Meredith Haney, Elementary Teacher of the Year: Meredith Haney was named the Twin Falls Education Foundation’s Elementary Teacher of the Year. Known for her humility, kindness, and dedication, Meredith creates a classroom where students feel valued, confident, and eager to learn. Parents praise the growth their children experience under her care—not just in academics but in confidence and joy.
Whether she's sharing class updates, celebrating student successes, or making a home visit with handmade cards from her students, Meredith embodies the spirit of a compassionate and committed educator. Her calm presence and belief in every child's potential have made a lasting difference in her school community.Megan Greenwood, Secondary Teacher of the Year: The Secondary Teacher of the Year award was presented to Megan Greenwood, a dynamic and student-centered educator who empowers her students to lead their own learning. Known for her inclusive classroom environment and hands-on teaching methods, Megan creates a space where students are not only welcomed but also inspired.
Her student-driven model gives learners ownership of their classroom experience and encourages personal growth alongside academic success. Megan is also the energetic leader of one of the school’s most enthusiastic extracurricular groups—the Pickleball Club. Through her leadership, new students have found belonging, confidence, and new passions.
Both educators were selected from a pool of nominees submitted by peers, students, and families who shared powerful testimonials about their dedication, compassion, and creativity in the classroom.
Playmaker of the Year Awards
This year marked the debut of the Playmaker of the Year Awards, sponsored by the Idaho Playground Project. The awards honor educators who thoughtfully and inclusively incorporate play into their classrooms and school communities.
Carly Butt, Elementary Playmaker of the Year: In Mrs. Butt’s classroom, play fuels curiosity, confidence, and connection. She builds joyful, hands-on learning experiences where every student feels valued and empowered. Her classroom is a vibrant, imaginative place where kids love to learn—and it shows.
Kristy Oberg, Secondary Playmaker of the Year: From student council advisor to IEP team leader, Kristy Oberg wears many hats, and she wears them all with warmth and heart. Her work is rooted in connection and inclusion, ensuring that every student has a place to belong and a reason to believe in themselves. As one student said, “I love you, Mrs. Oberg,” and she returns that love daily through her dedication and care.
Additional honors were presented during the evening, including:
Honoring a Lifelong Advocate: Bernie Jansen - This year’s Jerry Kleinkopf Friend of Education Award was presented to Bernie Jansen. A former Twin Falls School District Board Chair and the 2019 Idaho State Board Chair of the Year, Bernie has long been known for his calm leadership and steadfast commitment to students. He has served the district with humility, clarity, and an unwavering focus on what’s best for kids.
As TFSD Superintendent Dr. Brady Dickinson shared, “Bernie led with integrity—always putting students first. His example continues to shape the heart of our district.”Partner in Education Award: Linda and Mitch Watkins -
This year’s Partner in Education Award went to Linda and Mitch Watkins, whose impact on education in Twin Falls is both wide-reaching and deeply personal. Linda, a former educator and tireless advocate, has led key initiatives including bond campaigns and the founding of the Twin Falls Women’s Giving Connection. Mitch, through his leadership at Watkins Distributing, has cultivated a culture of generosity and service. Together, they established a fund through the Idaho Community Foundation to instill the values of giving in their children and grandchildren. Their enduring commitment and community spirit are shaping education for generations to come.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Twin Falls Education Foundation and to our community for their continued support of public education,” said TFSD Superintendent Dr. Brady Dickinson. “Recognitions like these remind our educators how valued and appreciated they truly are.”
